SEO – The Various Aspects

Published by Rob Sevilla on March 21st, 2012 - in Advertising - S.E.O

A lot of you have heard the term search engine optimization, and if you were anything like me, your ears started shutting down and your eyes would glaze over, in that non techie response we all have to the hidden world of computer programming. Well do not feel bad. Actually search engine optimization does have many aspects to it however, a lot of them are very simply no brainer things that you can easily handle. All the term means is that your making, or streamlining your site to make it the best site for what ever your promoting on the Internet. Your making it easier for both the future customers to find you, and for the search engines to categorize you, that is all it really means. So do not let it intimidate you in any way. Especially when your putting together work at home blogs, those are the easiest to streamline.

A basic rule I always go by when putting together a new site is work from the top down. The domain name to the footer. Set up a simple format like this and check everything off when completed:

Fav-Icon
URL
Header – Image
Title
Meta Description
Keywords
Headings for Posts
Images
Text / Image Ratio
Site Map
Footer – Legal Links Pages

Make sure that in each section you are directing both the search engines, and future customers towards one goal, getting them to where you want them to go. For the search engines, it will be to directing the correct traffic you want to find. They will send that if they understand what it is your promoting. They do this by reading meta tag and keyword descriptions, remember engines can not “read” pictures. This will also include setting up a site map, and it is just what it is called. A road map for search engines to classify your site, and it’s various pages. For the future leads, or customers you will get them by proper keywords, and images that they can relate to. People are very visual, so use plenty of pictures. When putting together a work at home blog you should always make sure to do every one of the categories listed above.

Search Engine Optimization & Google’s Page Rank System

Published by Rob Sevilla on December 19th, 2011 - in Advertising - S.E.O

What does this actually have to do with getting you more traffic you might be wondering. Well Google Page Rank or “PR” is a rating to show the importance of a web page that is given by Google. Page Rank is shown on the Google toolbar and is updated by Google each time they crawl the website. The rating on the toolbar icon is between 0-10, although the real figure defined by Google could be anything up to infinity and no one really knows their true rating.

As expected, the only website with a PR 10 is Google.com. Other high authority websites like BBC, Facebook and Wikipedia also have high Page Ranks, but it’s unlikely they’ll ever reach PR10. These websites have high PR because they are regularly updated with new content, have a lot of constant incoming traffic and other main SEO factors such as incoming links.

Google Page Rank is based on relevancy including back links and on page optimization factors. Websites with high authority go hand in hand with those with high Page Rank so as part of your SEO project it’s essential to work on building up your authority to help increase PR. By creating a lot of highly relevant content and back links and using other SEO factors such as social media optimization you can help to improve SEO results and Page Rank.

Start by searching for “Web Directories” and placing your URL or link information on their link submission sites. Its long and boring but after a few weeks you’ll start to see your PR climb from a N/A to a 1, 2 or 3 relatively quickly. Which in turn will result in more website traffic. A good web directory to start with is http://www.addurl.nu

5 Top Rated Blog Commenting Tips

Published by Rob Sevilla on October 26th, 2011 - in Advertising - Blogging Tactics

Links are the medium of exchange for SEO and Internet marketing. The more quality one-way links  that are directed towards it, the better it looks in the eyes of  search engines like Google, and Yahoo. Every site has a certain amount of established trust with the search engines and when one site links to another, it passes along a bit of that trust in the form of “link juice.” The more links a site has  determines the amount of  link juice it contains. This alerts the search engines that this is a valuable and useful site (the idea being that better quality site will have more incoming links as they are more frequently referenced).

A link building campaign is defined as the process of building up the number of inbound links your site has. There are many places that one is able to get a link, but a very popular and useful link source is through commenting on blogs.  In order to get the most out of your blog commenting, here are 5 top rated blog commenting tips.

1. Use your real name when possible

Sometimes bigger companies don’t want to use an actual person’s name when blog commenting, in case that person leaves or is fired from the company. But you should strive to comment using a real name whenever possible. This breeds trust with the blog owner and the blog’s community. Hiding behind a business name can be frowned upon, as you are less accountable for your comments.

2. Three sentence minimum should be your goal

Blog commenting is not only useful for link building, but it is also a great way to brand yourself and establish your company/business as an industry expert. Setting a 3 sentence minimum for your comments will help you make sure you are actually leaving a valid comment. Blog owners can spot a stock comment(Ex: Great post! Very informative. Thanks so much for sharing!)a mile away.

3. DUH!! Actually read the post

This may seem like “well, duh” thing to say, but you’d be amazed to find out the percentages of people who just leave a comment without actually reading the post. Usually they just read the first paragraph and rehash what the author said. You want to know that what you are saying is relevant to the post, and add value to it. Posting an unrelated comment discredits yours authority and undermines your brand building. If it’s an exceptionally long post, then at least skim the whole thing, looking for the high lights.

4. Respond to other comments

Writing response comments is a great way to stir up a conversation with the blog’s other readers. Getting involved with the blog’s community can help you develop new connections and professional relationships. You never know who you might meet on a popular industry blog. Other industry professionals and potential clients tend to turn to the same thought leaders for the latest news and trends.

5. Early Comments get the worm

Most blog posts go live in the morning, so they have all day to be read and indexed by the search engines. You want to be one of the first people to comment on a blog post, because it helps with your brand recognition.  Other readers may scroll through the first few comments, but few will sift through all 102 of them. If you are at the bottom, you got the link but little else of value.
