Many of you who have been trying to make money online are still wondering why all of the hundreds or even thousands of people checking out your website each month are not buying your fantastic product by the droves. Well may be it is because you are not advertising in the right places. Lets boil it down to the basics. Say you lived in an Amish community. Well the Amish have chosen a lifestyle of basics, and live just like they did 150 years ago. So, you would not want to be selling your computer repair services in this type of environment right? You need to do some real basic market research, and find out exactly where your future buyers are hanging out, be it following a blog, forums or just through keyword research. First thing is first. Check to make sure there is even a market online for what you are selling.

You can quickly can quickly do this by simply typing in your product name. Say your selling and eBook on learning how to play pool. Then type in “improve my pool game, ” in quotation marks. If you get more than 100,000 results come up, then your in business. By typing it in quotes you are only bringing up only other business owners selling similar products. This way you will find out just how big the competition is, and if it is a reasonable size, then you will know there is a market for this product. So now you simply need to find out where your people are going to be looking for books and products that similar. The best place to do this is by writing a list of the top ten sites advertising using highly competitive keywords. Also type in billiards forums, or the like. You will get a list of forums dealing with the game.

This is exactly where you will find your customers base. Also, contact those top ten website owners and ask if you can place a banner ad on there. Negotiate a deal. Most will be receptive to this sort of offer, obviously they will get a part of your profits from sales directly related to traffic from their site. However it is worth it, as you do not have to do anything but place your ad on their site. They are the ones paying for the traffic to their site. You can also leave comments with a track back link to your site on blog that have similar content. Another good tactic is to leave a video response on videos that again have similar content. In the end you will be getting truly targeted traffic landing on your website that you know are looking to buy whatever product is your promoting. It is the surest way to start making those affiliate sales!

I want to talk to you about generating the proper, or “right” leads for you business, whatever it may be. There is general traffic, and then there is looking to buy traffic. Most people, especially gurus, do not bother to tell you about this, and it is vital that you learn to get the right kind of traffic to your product site. Now just think of it this way, are you looking to buy a product every time you get online, no of course not. However, when you are online you are visiting sites, that classifies you as general looky-loo traffic. Then there are the times you are looking to buy that one thing, and you only want to go to sites that sell that one thing at a great price. Well you will type something like “low priced golf clubs.” Great keyword phrase to find people not wanting to spend a lot of money, but are definitely in the “buying mood.”

If you could rank number one for that phrase, about 75%-90% of the people landing on your page will want to buy your clubs. So good lead generation begins with ranking for very specific keyword phrases that are geared towards only grabbing the buying customers. Now do not get me wrong, general traffic can be beneficial too, as it will increase your rankings, and of course those people if they liked what they saw may bookmark your site, and come to it at a later date to buy. A little tip to help those correct leads remember your site after it is bookmarked is to make sure you have what is called a “favorites icon “ created. It is that small picture you see right next to the URL up in the web browser bar. Well that same picture will show on their bookmarks list as well. So make sure you have one made up.

Remember to “drill down” your keyword phrases in your marketing to catch those buying people. Also try to find a URL that has a drilled down phrase, that will really put you over the top against your competition. You might have heard the term “call-to-action.” This is when you are telling the buyer to get, or buy your product. Sometimes you might need to push the buyer of the edge which compels them to buy. So offer a free trial of something, or a couple of great bonuses that they can not get anywhere else. Remember, you are just one of a million sites for the public to choose from. So make sure your site, and it’s offers are unique. Also try advertising in sites with similar content. It is okay, a lot of times those competitors will let you put ads for the same product because they are getting paid. Remember to be where your customers are, and you will get the correct leads every time.
