Proper Keyword Research

Published by Rob Sevilla on February 15th, 2012 - in Advertising - Keyword Research

As I have mentioned in my newest video it is vital folks to get your keyword research down to a science. Now of course you can outsource this type of work, but you should really know, and learn how to do this on your own before you send somebody else to do your work. The main reason is this, when they give you a list of niche targeted keywords to try and rank for, you will “know” whether or not they have done a good job, or if you have just been taken for a ride. Knowledge is power guys. Learn to do everything yourself before you pay other people to do tasks for you. Now when it comes to keyword research there are two main things you need to key in mind.

1). Pick low to medium competition keyword phrases only
2). Pick buyer / action oriented keyword phrases.

These are the 2 commandments when it comes to proper keyword research. You must NEVER DEVIATE from these rules, ever! The reasons are this. Regarding the first rule, most of you are just starting out, and have no clue as to what you are doing, and probably do not have thousands to out bid other people online for the high competition keywords. Remember the Internet has been a commercial entity now for 20 years. So what ever you think you have come up with it was already thought of ten years ago, by 800,000 other people. What you need to do is find keyword phrases around 3 to 4 words long that people would type in who are looking to buy a product in your niche. Example, say you own golf store and sell clubs for beginners. Well then on your website get specific.

“Come check out our golf clubs for beginners.”

Now that’s a good start however, how many of you realize what is wrong with this keyword phrase? That is right, it probably has eight million other websites using the same phrasing. So you need to get more specific, so try something like this.

Come see our golf clubs for kids discount.
Come check out our cheap golf clubs for novices deals.
Come take a look at out our golf clubs for newcomers sale.

Many of these phrases are not as widely used, so competition should be low to medium. Notice that I also added discount, sale and deals. These are major “action / buyer” oriented keyword phrases. Nobody would ever type in golf clubs for kids discount unless they are ready and looking to buy. Remember, we want to avoid all the looky-lue traffic and have only paying customers land on our websites. This means high conversions and more money in your pockets. If your having a hard time coming up with phrases that are not as widely known get yourself a Thesaurus. Trust me when it comes to keyword research it is a must have for proper Internet marketing.

Choosing Keywords For Greater Search Engine Traffic

Published by Rob Sevilla on August 19th, 2011 - in Advertising - Keyword Research

Search engines are the bearers of potential visitors and as such should be treated with due respect. However, for the search engines to direct visitors to your website, you should feed them the correct information such as keywords. The keywords are like the secret codes that open many doors and facilitate traffic flow in your direction.

The keywords or phrases have to be chosen with great care. The Web pages use this information to drive traffic to it. Generalized and overused keywords are futile in this regard. While the site can probably be identified with only the keywords used. If the selection is not done by following some specific steps, it may not be effective. Follow these to get the right.

Place yourself in the customer’s shoes: Business owners and customers think differently.
This can make a difference in the selection of keywords, as it is ultimately the customer who is looking for information. Compile a list of keywords by asking your customers.
Cut off the list: Prune, choosing only those that lead to big spenders.

The two criteria for keyword selection are its popularity, and uniqueness. Popular keywords are most likely to be entered for the search. This may be gauged using software’s like Word Tracker. However, popular keywords have the disadvantage that they will be abused. Uniqueness of the keyword is more important to attain a better search engine ranking.

Another important factor is the drive to get the customer to what he or she wants. To get results, customers juggle with specific keywords. If you do the same with the keyword list, you will get with the winners. The keywords once chosen, should be evaluated periodically, every few weeks or so. To verify their search engine effectiveness. You can do with the help of software, like Google keyword search tool, or again word tracker.

How to Keyword Focus Your Website or Blog for Better SEO

You’re creating content for your blog or website. You can create content haphazardly, or you can laser focus your web content to advance your site in the search engines.

A website consists of one or more web pages. Search engines index web pages individually.

For each keyword phrase that you care about, create a web page on your site dedicated to that keyword phrase alone.
